Mr Ernie Delfos, Managing Director of ENI Australia and Chair of APPEA’s Health, Safety and Operations (HSO) Committee is passionate about improving safety standards in Australia’s oil and gas industry.
Mr Delfos – a keynote speaker at the HSR Forum on Monday 7 September – says the industry has significantly improved personal safety in the workplace and now needs to match that success in the area of process safety as assets age and new projects come on line.
Every successful business has a strong safety culture and, as Mr Delfos explains in our APPEA HSE Conference video, frontline Health & Safety Representatives are key to the industry achieving its zero incidents safety target.

Simplicity from complexity – the future of HSE governance, performance and innovation
Building on the success of APPEA’s inaugural HSE conference in 2014, the APPEA 2015 Health, Safety & Environment Conference, HSR Forum and OSR Forum will be held on 7-9 September in Perth, Western Australia.
With the theme “Simplicity from complexity – the future of HSE governance, performance and innovation”, the 2015 HSE Conference is set to be a must-attend event for everyone across the upstream oil and gas industry and beyond. It is expected to attract more than 400 delegates, including international and local industry leaders, operational and HSE staff, key service providers, workforce and government representatives and regulators.
This conference is the Australian oil and gas industry’s pre-eminent HSE event. It provides an essential forum for the industry to share knowledge, lessons and expertise and work together to achieve high HSE standards across all of the industry’s onshore and offshore activities.
The 2015 APPEA HSR Forum will be held on Monday 7 September, leading into the HSE Conference on 8-9 September. The workforce is a vital part of the oil and gas industry leaders’ commitment to work together to achieve high safety standards right across the industry – both onshore and offshore. The APPEA HSR Forum is therefore an important annual event for the workforce, and provides a time for health and safety and workforce representatives to come together in one place to develop their safety skills and share workplace experiences, issues and solutions.
The APPEA Oil Spill Response Forum provides an rare opportunity for operators, contractors, service and support organisations, researchers and government agencies to come together to share the latest developments in oil spill response policy, technology and practice.
